The 'teeth' are described in the species profile as a beak, so presumably the disturbing similarity to human teeth is coincidental.

There's another weirdness I've just spotted. Although the mouth is round , the rim surrounding that is hexagonal. I'd have expected the rim to be either round like the mouth, or 10-sided, since the beast has 10 tentacles (OK, 8 tentacles and 2 hexacotyls(sp?)). More and more bizarre.
